ST GEORGE’S HILL GOLF CLUB

MESSAGES FROM OUR CAPTAINS

CLUB CAPTAIN

Chris Pettie

I would like to extend to you all the warmest of welcomes from us all at St George’s Hill Golf Club.

Designed by Harry Colt, sometimes described as “the greatest golf course architect of all time” whose many courses all around the world remain amongst the most highly regarded, St George’s Hill Golf Club remains true to Colt’s ideals that golfers should have fond memories of the course, be challenged and enjoy a full test of golf. This ideal is fully realised at St George’s Hill which continues to provide golfers of all standard a thorough test in a truly awesome setting.

The course consists of two 9-hole loops – the Red and the Blue; both starting and finishing directly in front of the clubhouse. Each hole is unique and sets its own challenges. Arriving at the 9th tee and approaching the 18th green are the two most obvious of “wow” moments visually – a treat wholly enhanced by our stunning clubhouse and terrace, nestling somehow both imposingly and seamlessly into the hillside. There cannot be many finer places to enjoy a post round drink than on the club’s large terrace, especially as the sun is setting. The Club’s friendly staff welcome members and visiting players alike. The upstairs Dining Room delivers a fine service whilst also offering stunning views over the course and beyond to the West.

The club is fortunate to have a 3rd 9-hole loop – the Green – that includes some of the toughest challenges of all.

Our members are rightly both proud and privileged to enjoy one of the UK’s top-rated courses. I recommend a watch of the video on this website that gives a fuller flavour of the experience of golf at St George’s Hill.

A traditional golf club, hosting visitors with a passion for magnificent golf courses.

LADY CAPTAIN

Wendy Reardon

It’s a real privilege to have been a member of St George’s Hill for 25 years, and I feel truly honoured to now serve as Lady Captain.

I consider myself very fortunate to have opportunities to play at other wonderful clubs in the area, and on trips abroad, but nothing quite compares to returning home to our/my heathland heaven.  There’s something unparalleled about the beauty, the challenge, and perhaps the faint hope that this time, I’ll finally master that approach to the 16th green!

On arrival, you will find yourself gazing across the 9th and 18th holes, or up the sloping fairway to the 1st green.  After tackling our iconic par-3 8th hole, take a moment on the 9th tee to look up towards the iconic clubhouse.  It’s one of those sights that reminds you why members, their guest and visitors all love to return.

At St George’s Hill, we share not just the love of the game, but the friendships, laughter and occasional tales of golfing heroics that come with it. Many of our friendships have been forged on fairways, in bunkers, and most importantly, over a well-deserved drink on the terrace enjoying some spectacular sunsets.

Whatever the season, our members and visitors are greeted with the same warmth and enthusiasm by our incredible staff.  Perhaps Harry Colt himself foresaw all this when he discovered this rare pocket of heathland, lined with Scots Pines, and designed one of his finest masterpieces.

We are also blessed with a dedicated team of professionals, who help us improve, guide us through Colt’s many challenges, and reassure us that, yes, everyone has lost a ball on the 10th hole at some point.

Don’t just take my word for it — if you have the chance to visit St George’s Hill, we would love to welcome you and invite you to create a few golfing memories of your own.
